Rite Aid has another fund raiser....bowling!

Rite Aid did a fantastic job at their first annual bowling fund raiser. They had about 80 people come out and bowl on a Sunday evening. It was so much fun that next year I bet next year they will have even more! I am not sure if this is a coincidence or not, but Rite Aid held their fund raiser at the same place that Evan has been bowling at weekly on a league for 4 years now!

Our Launch Event

Our Launch Event was a huge success! It started off with his very own police escort to Walmart to see that there was a huge crowd waiting for MY champion! We went into Walmart where most of the associates were clapping and cheering him on. His Neurosurgeon was there waiting for him as well as his principal, school nurse, TA and his former special educator. As well as most of his family members. Evan was then presented with a gift card so he can go on a shopping spree! He headed straight to electronics and bought himself a camera for our up coming trip to Washington DC and Florida!

The Launch Event

Please join us in the Children's Miracle Network Launch event. It is located at Warwick Mall Walmart at 10 am on May 12th. If you can not make it to this event, please try to remember to buy a "balloon" the next time you are there. These donations go to our own Children's Miracle Network hospital, Hasbro Children's Hospital.
If you know Evan, then you know how they have been so instrumental in keeping him healthy.
Thanks in advance!

Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Champions

Champions is a Children's Miracle Network Hospitals program that brings attention to the important work being done at its 170 children’s hospitals. It does this by honoring 51 remarkable kids who have faced severe medical challenges, and helping them tell their stories.

The Champions program designates a child in every state who has bravely battled a serious injury or illness. The Champions represent the nearly 17 million children treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals every year. The 2011 Champions have dealt with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses including genetic diseases, organ transplants and traumas, as well as various types of cancer.

The Champions travel for a week in October, first to Washington, D.C., where they traditionally meet with their state senators on Capitol Hill, and the President of the United States during a visit to the White House. They then take a private chartered flight, provided by Delta Air Lines, to Orlando, Fla. There, champions meet Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals sponsors, hospital representatives and media partners who all convene to celebrate a year of medical miracles during the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Celebration event at Walt Disney World Resort.

Evan's Story

Evan
Age 12

Rhode Island
Hasbro Children's Hospital

Spina Bifida

Evan, also known as "the Mayor," is well known throughout his community and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. It’s not hard to see why when you meet this friendly 12-year-old.

Doctors say Evan is the only kid they know who wakes up from sedation telling jokes. And that’s typical of this outgoing young man with a great sense of humor. Always laughing and always smiling, Evan has learned to make his struggles with spina bifida merely a bump in his road of life.

Being born with spina bifida brings with it a host of medical problems. Evan has been in and out of the hospital frequently with hydrocephalus and shunt placements, various surgeries and a variety of fractures.

Although Evan has some adversities, he does not let them stand in his way. He loves a variety of sports, enjoys bowling, and is learning to play the violin. Evan’s determined to never let anything get in his way of living life the way he wants to.
